Carroll LaVerne Rector, 80, of Newton died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A memorial service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Monroe United Methodist Church, with burial following at Silent City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the LaVerne Rector Memorial Fund.

The son of Cecil and Gladys (Fouch) Rector, he was born July 3, 1925, in Fairview Township. On May 23, 1948, he married Doris Klein. He farmed his entire life in the Monroe area. He also was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Craig Dykstra of Canon City, Colo.; a grandson; two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Janet Galloway of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife and a daughter, Kathy.
