Carol Jean Quick, 62, of Newton died Sunday, July 23, 2006, in Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials in her name may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Edwin Slater and Elda Anna Grace (Huebbe) Wing, she was born Aug. 4, 1943, in Iowa City. She grew up in Maquoketa, Delmar and Clinton before moving back to Newton in 2000.

She married Jimmy A. Quick in Morrison, Ill., in the summer of 1969. He died in 1976. She later married Howard W. McBroom on Sept. 8, 1984, in Derby. She was a homemaker and also worked at Derby Restaurant in Derby and at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Des Moines as a microfilm operator.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, doing crafts, bird watching, bowling and playing cards and dice. She also enjoyed Christmas and decorating for the holiday.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, James D. and Lynn Wing of Clear Lake and Edwin L. and Teresa Quick and Jimmy A. Quick Jr., all of Newton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Machelle R. and Dale James of Reasnor and Jennifer L. Quick and Josh Heward of Urbandale; three step-sons and their wives, Rick and Danette McBroom of Derby, Duane McBroom of Humeston and Todd and Rhonda McBroom of Runnells; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters; and four brothers.

She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands.
