DES MOINES -- Kenneth R. Pickett, 84, of Des Moines, formerly of Newton, died Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Hamilton's Funeral Home, located at 605 Lyon St. in Des Moines, is handling arrangements.
He was born Oct. 9, 1921, and was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. He worked for the city of Des Moines in the Sanitation Department.

Survivors include his wife, Viola Pickett; sister, Ruth Lightner; a daughter, Margaret Darby; and grandchildren.
