SULLY — William "Bill" Moes, 88, of Sully, died Sunday, April 16, 2006, at Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sully Christian Reformed Church in Sully. Burial with military honors will be at Sully Cemetery in Sully.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Sully Christian Reformed Church.

Memorials may be made to Sully Christian Grade School or "Back to God Hour."

Mr. Moes is survived by his wife Irene (De Ruiter) Moes; four children, Marlen De Jong of Pella, Gwen Dunsbergen of Kellogg, Dennis Moes of Sully and Wm. Kelly Moes of Kellogg.

William Moes was born on July 4, 1917 near Lynnville, Iowa. He was the fourth of eight children that were born to Lammert and Cornelia Dieleman Moes.

At an early age he moved to the Sully, Iowa area and attended the Sully Christian Grade School. Bill then became a livestock truck driver for the C. O. Macy Stockyards.

In May of 1941 he was inducted into the armed services. Bill served in the U. S. Army with the 383rd Medical Company as a surgical technician in the European Theatre during World War II. He was honorably discharged in June of 1945. Following his discharge Bill began farming.

On February 12, 1946, he was united in marriage with Irene J. De Ruiter at Lynnville and to this union four children were born: Marlene Rae, Gwendolyn Sue, Dennis Eugene and Wm Kelly. Following his marriage Bill continued farming until 1960 at which time he started in the plumbing and heating business, forming his own business in 1972. Bill retired from the business in 1979 at which time the business, Bill Moes, Inc., continued to be operated by his son, Dennis. Following his retirement, Bill and Irene enjoyed traveling and for 23 years they spent the winters in Texas.

On Easter Sunday evening, April 16, 2006, Bill passed away at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 12 days.

Those who will cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Irene; their four children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. They and their families are: Marlene R. and Paul De Jong of Pella, Iowa; Gwen S. and Marvin Dunsbergen of Kellogg, Iowa; Dennis E. and Kathy (Snodgrass) Moes of Sully, Iowa; Wm Kelly and DeNeil (Johnson) Moes of Kellogg, Iowa
Bill enjoyed family activities and spending time with his many friends.

Of his original family he leaves one sister, Wilma and her husband, Edward Sparks of Newton; one brother, Donald Moes and his wife, Arlene of Sully; his sister-in-law, Evelyn (Ralph) Moes presently of Altoona, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette (Tunis) De Ruiter presently of Grinnell, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lammert and Cornelia Moes who both died in 1966; four sisters: Jennie Moes, Elizabeth (Joe) Vos, Gertrude (Dick) Pleima and Cornelia Moes; and one brother, Ralph Moes.

Bill was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1655 in Newton; had served on the Sully City Council; and was a past member of the Sully Business Men's Association. He was a lifelong member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church in Sully where he had served as a Deacon. The family will remember with fond memories his faithfulness as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
