Newton (IA) Daily News, Dec. 1834 – Jan. 1916

Mathew Kirkpatrick who has been ill for some time, died yesterday afternoon at his home, 8 miles south of Newton. Mr. Kirkpatrick is one of the oldest residents of Jasper county, having settled in the Palo Alto neighborhood over forty years ago. He has a large acquaintance in Jasper county and his death will be a source of regret to many friends. He leaves an aged wife, one daughter, Mrs. Lon Wilson, and three sons, -- Charles, Will and John. He has been feeble for some time and his death has been expected for the past month so that the sorrowing family were prepared for their loss which however, is hard for them to bear.

He was born Dec. 23rd, 1834, being 81 years, 1 month and three days of age at the time of his death which occurred yesterday afternoon about 3 o’clock.

The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock at the U. P. church at Palo Alto.
