Harold Henning, 70, of Newton died Sunday, July 2, 2006, in Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service was today at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center, officiating. Burial was at Newton Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his name.

The son of Albert Carl Henning and Minnie Viola Redding, he was born April 25, 1936, in Newton. He served 16 years in the military and was a member of V.F.W. Post 1655. He was very involved in the V.F.W. and served many years in the color guard. He worked as a regional manager for Vicker's service stations and helped his brother in his roofing business. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bingo and going to Prairie Meadows.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Chrissy Henning of Newton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mindy and Jamy Andersen of Rhodes, Ellie and Josh Stafford of Newton and Mandy and Bill Madoll; 14 grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Helen Henning of Banard, Jim and Mary Henning of Kellogg and Tom and Judy Henning of Chester, Vt.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Chrystal and Rod Walker and Betty and Bill Stafford, all of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Bill, Ronnie, Skip and Dick; and a sister, Alberta Meyer.
