Steven Bruce Gamble, 57, of Newton died Friday, June 30, 2006, at his home.

A time of celebration with the family will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family requests that attendees wear no black attire.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his name or to All Iowa A.I.D.'s Benefit.

The son of James R. and Alice M. (Jones) Gamble, he was born Nov. 25, 1948, in Hampton. He graduated from Hampton Senior High School in 1967 and served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He worked for Maytag Company and retired in 2003 from the dryer assembly department. For the past few years, he worked for Earl May Garden Center in Newton. He was a member of Emperial Court of Iowa and was involved with All Iowa A.I.D.'s Benefit.

Survivors include the mother of his children and friend, Joyce A. Gamble of Newton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mya Gamble Vos and Don Vos of Prairie City and Christopher Gamble and Robert of Chicago, Ill.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and partner, David Wagley.
