KELLOGG — Everett W. Cox, 75, of Kellogg died Monday, July 17, 2006, at his home in rural Kellogg.

A funeral service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Rock Creek Cemetery in rural Kellogg.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Floyd and Elizabeth (Koon) Cox, he was born Jan. 8, 1931, in rural Kellogg. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he drove Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower. On June 20, 1953, he married Eleanor R. Halligan at Evanston First Congregational Church in Evanston.

He was a lifelong farmer, living in rural Newton from 1956 to 1997 and rural Kellogg from 1997 to the present. He also worked for Maytag Company for 30 years and retired in 1982. He was a member of VFW, American Legion of Kellogg and Newton and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed farming, keeping up on agricultural news in county magazines, doing search-a-word puzzles, attending his family reunion in June and spending time with his family, especially his great-granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife; a son, F. Wayne Cox of Kellogg; a daughter and son-in-law, Edith J. "Edie" and Randy Hoover of Newton; a granddaughter; great-granddaughter; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Doyle and Verda Cox of Rogersville, Mo., Bill and Charolet Cox of Blue Springs, Mo., and Donnie Cox and Sharon Graves of Tama; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Roger Kinney of Garland, Texas, and Janet Cox and Paul Wilderdyke of Woodbine; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry Cox; and two sisters, Lois (Cox) Berger and Darla (Cox) Martin.
