MONROE -- Mark A. Blommers, 48, of Monroe died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Monroe. Burial will be at Gifford Cemetery.

A visitation is planned Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Mark A. Blommers Memorial Fund.

The son of Marvin and Helen B. (Van Brogen) Blommers, he was born Jan. 5, 1958, in Newton. On Sept. 27, 1980, he married Kathy M. Lenger in Lovilia. He worked as a carpenter and enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of Celebrate Community Church in Knoxville. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; three sisters, Robin Blommers of Des Moines, Kristin Blommers of Brooklyn and Danyele Blommers of Monroe; a son, Kyle Blommers of Monroe; his mother, Helen of Newton, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Mike Farrell of Cedar Falls and Sandy and Bill Boyd of Newton; and a brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Lisa Blommers of Newton.

Preceding him in death were his father and twin sisters in infancy.
