MARITTA, Okla. -- Funeral services for Wayne Farland, 72, of Marritta, Okla., a former resident of Newton, were held Saturday, June 30, in Cedar Rapids.

Military rites were conducted by the Toddville American Legion Post 674 at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

He died Tuesday in Marritta, Okla., from cancer.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, David of Marion and Thomas of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Cathleen Farland of La Grange, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

Also surviving are four brothers, Clifford, Delbert and Jim, all of Newton, and Ronn of Sacramento, Calif., and five sisters, Marjorie Kilburn of West Union, Alberta Doane and La Vonne Thorson, both of Newton, Jean Dillon of Marengo and Marilyn Greene of La Mirado, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A resident of Solon, Mr. Farland, a prominent businessman, founded F and W Truck and Equipment Co., now F and W Mack Truck Sales, Inc., in 1956.

A Maytag Co. employee prior to entering the Navy in World War II, he was a member of the Cedar Rapids Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 788, the Cedar Rapids Christ Church Presbyterian, Iowa Motor Truck Association, Better Business Bureau, Chamber of Commerce and American Quarter Horse Association.

The son of Harold and Hazel Horn Farland, he was born June 21, 1918 in rural Jasper County.
