Frank I. Ettelson
SANGER, Calif. -- Frank I. Ettelson, 69, of Sanger, Calif., a former resident of Newton, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 28, at a Fresno, Calif., hospital.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, four children, Tom, Jack, Becky Posey of Clovis, Calif., and Kathryn Brummer of Arvada, Colo.; and six grandchildren.
Also surviving are a sister, Mary (Mrs. Gomer) Thomas and a brother, Lyle E. Ettelson, both of Newton.
The son of Jack and Lilly Merle Reeves Ettelson, he was born Dec. 3, 1920 in Newton.
A 1938 graduate of Newton Community High School, he was employed in his father’s grocery store in northeast Newton.
He served in the Navy for six years before and during World War II and was in the Pacific Theater of operations.
He participated in the atomic bomb test at Bikini.
He was married to Mary Gates of Wisconsin in Newton in 1941.
He moved to California in the late 1940’s and was employed as a butcher in grocery stores until his retirement.
