Alfred L. Eatwell Jr.

Alfred L. Eatwell Jr., 65, of 1324 Glenway Drive, a resident of Newton since 1946, died Sunday morning, Oct. 28, at his home of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Paul Wilcox, pastor of St. Like United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday.

Memorials to a fund in his name will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Wilma; three sons, Rodney of Des Moines, Tony of Meritt Island, Fla., and Bradley of Kellogg; a daughter, Vicky Eatwell of Newton; his father, Alfred L. Eatwell Sr. of Mingo; his mother, Lena Clark of Colo.; and a grandchild.

Also surviving are three half-brothers, Hilster Clark of De Soto, Homer Clark of Monticello and Dick Clark of Altoona; and three half-sisters, Wanda (Mrs. Rodney) Brown of Des Moines, Norma Emerson of Berwick and Elaine (Mrs. Hubert) Clark of Colo.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kim Lateer Eatwell, in 1954 and a brother, Darrell Eatwell, in 1961.

Mr. Eatwell was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655, American Legion Post 111, Izaak Walton League and Newton Masonic Lodge 59 AF and AM.

Mr. Eatwell enlisted in the Navy in September, 1943, earned his wings in July, 1944, and on Oct. 8, 1945, he and his fellow members of Patrol Bombing Squadron 23, helped in the rescue of 159 American men from the sea during World War II near Palau Island.

Mr. Eatwell was an inspector at the Maytag Co., retiring in October, 1986, after 40 years of services.

The son of Alfred L. and Lena Baker Eatwell Sr., he was born Sept. 25, 1925 in Mingo and was a 1943 graduate of Mingo Community High School.

He was married to Wilma M. Huff June 29, 1947 in Killduff.

NEWTON, IA. -- Services for Alfred L. Eatwell Jr. of Newton will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home, and burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Mr. Eatwell, 64, died of cancer Sunday at home.

Born in Mingo, he moved to Newton 33 years ago and retired in 1986 as an inspector of Maytag Co., where he had worked for 40 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of St. Like Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Izaak Walton League and the Masonic Lodge.
