Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Batty Elscott, 85, of 1625 N. 4th Ave. W., a resident of Newton since 1939, were held today, Aug. 6, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
Dr. Douglas Oelke, pastor of the First Baptist Church, conducted services. Burial was in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation with the family was held Sunday at the funeral home.
She died Friday morning at the Jasper County Care Facility of complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Memorials to the Jasper County Care Facility will be accepted.
Survivors are her husband; two sons, Ken of Iowa City and Merlin of Shalimar, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Lloyd Batty, and a sister, Theda Booth.
Mrs. Elscott, a homemaker, was a member of the First Baptist Church.
The daughter of George and Byrda Mc Daniel Batty, she was born July 18, 1905 in Colfax.
She was married to Wallace Elscott Sept. 18, 1926 in Newton.

NEWTON, IA. -- Mary Elizabeth Elscott, 85, of Newton died of Alzheimer’s disease Friday at the Jasper County Care Facility. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home here, with burial at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Elscott, a homemaker, was born in Colfax and had lived in Newton since 1939. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving is her husband, Wallace; two sons, Ken of Iowa City and Merlin of Shalamar, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call until service time at the funeral home, where family will meet with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jasper County Care Facility.
