Frederick Etter

Frederick Etter, Jr., 69, of 315 N. 15th Ave. W., died Saturday morning, May 19, at his home of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Reese Funeral Chapel.

The Rev. John Craun, pastor of the Newton Vineyard Fellowship Church, will conduct services.

Military graveside rites will be held at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County of the American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Laura “Jerry”; five sons, Charles of Monroe and Dwight, Ronald, Roger and Tony, all of Newton; two daughters, Sharon Hermann of Hampshire, Ill. And Lesa Dean of Point Lugu Calif.; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Carl, Robert and Larry, all of Newton, and Donald of Omaha, Neb.; and a sister, Ulah Clob of Melrose.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant grandson and a brother, Charles.

Mr. Etter, a machine operator at the Maytag Co. for 38 years, was a member of the United Auto Workers, Local 997.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

The son of Fred W. and Nancy Groves Etter, he was born July 4, 1920 in Russell.

He was married to Laura Geraldine Skaggs Jan. 2, 1947 in Chariton.

Mr. Etter had resided in Russell, Confidence and Burlington before moving to Newton in 1942. He farmed near Corydon from 1953 to 1955 when he returned to Newton.
