Merritt M. Dalton

KELLOGG -- Funeral services for Merritt M. Dalton, 65, of Box 356, Kellogg, a resident of Kellogg since the autumn of 1989, were be held Sunday, Oct. 28, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. Robert Waters, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kellogg, conducted services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Visitation with the family was held from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

He died Thursday evening at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of heart failure.

Memorials to the American Heart Association of the American Lung Association will be accepted.

Survivors are his mother, Mable Dalton of Kellogg; a brother, Edward of Newton; two sisters, Alice (Mrs. Albert) Trotter of Newton and Patricia (Mrs. John) Boening of Glendale, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1983, and two brothers, Harold Merle in 1949, and Richard Dalton Jr., in infancy.

Mr. Dalton was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Des Moines and was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in West Des Moines.

Mr. Dalton, a resident of West Des Moines from 1947 until moving to Kellogg, had been a certified public accountant and tax consultant in his home in Des Moines for more than 30 years.

The son of Richard and Mabel Birkenholz Dalton, he was born July 6, 1925 in Monroe and was graduated from Prairie City Community High School.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Saturday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
