Funeral services for Robert J. “Bob” Dalzell, 72, of 2710 1st Ave. W., a resident of Newton since 1972, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the First Assembly of God.

The Rev. George Cuff, pastor the church, will conduct services.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.

Friends may call after 8 a.m. Friday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.

Mr. Dalzell died Tuesday at Skiff Medical Center after suffering a heart attack.

Survivors are his wife, Delores; three sons, Rex J. of Somerset, Wis., Kent of Rochester, Minn., and John of Pequet Lake, Minn.; three step-sons, Ronald Barthelman of Indianapolis, Ind., Kenny Barthelman of Wichita, Kan., and Randy Barthelman of Seattle, Wash.; a daughter, Bobble Lee (Mrs. Jim) Debros of St. Cloud, Minn., a step-daughter, Deb Blair of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy (Mrs. Vance) Koerner of Grundy Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in infancy.

Mr. Dalzell, a member of the First Assembly of God and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655, served in the Navy as a medical corpsman attached to the Marines during the 22-months spent on Guadalcanal during World War II.

He had taught at International Falls, Minn., and Brainerd, Minn., and was an orderly at Embassy Manor in Newton in the 1970’s.

The son of James G. and Ruth E. Williamson Dalzell, he was born April 10, 1918 in Grundy Center, was graduated in 1936 from Grundy Center High School, was graduated from Logan Basic College of Chiropractic at St. Louis, Mo., attended the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls and received a teaching degree from Minnesota State Teachers College in St. Cloud, Minn.

He was married to Dolores Smakel Barthelman Sept. 16, 1972 in Newton.
