MITCHELLVILLE -- Funeral services for Freddie P. Diehm, 87, of Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville, a former resident of rural Newton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Newton First Assembly of God.

The Rev. George Cuff, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Robert Stewart of Normal, Ill., will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton after 8 a.m. Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the First Assembly of God will be accepted.

He died Wednesday at Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville of heart failure.

Survivors are three sons, Frederick “Mike” of Des Moines, David P. of Ankeny and Stephen D. of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Laura “Lynn” (Mrs. Keith) Auten of Newton and Sally Ann (Mrs. Mike) Fahrney of Ojai, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Art Diehm of Knoxville; and two sisters, Stella VandeVeer of Grinnell and Clara Foster of Searsboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Clara Weber Diehm, wife, Ada, in 1986, a sister, four brothers and a grandson in 1978.

Mr. Diehm, a member of the Newton Assembly of God and past member of the Newton Moose Lodge, began farming in the Newton area in 1943 and had worked at the Maytag Co. for 19 years prior to World War II.

The son of Andrew J. and Anna Kinsel Diehm, he was born April 30, 1903 in rural Kellogg.

He was married to Ada W. Roberts Dec. 19, 1935 in Newton. ~ Newton Daily News, Newton, Jasper, Iowa, October 31, 1990
