GRINNELL -- Gladys F. Shill Deppe, 93, of Grinnell, a former longtime resident of the Rock Creek area in Jasper County, died Wednesday Jan. 17, at St. Francis Manor Nursing Home in Grinnell.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kellogg.

The Rev. Arvid Dixen, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grinnell, will conduct services and burial will be in Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

Memorials in her name may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are three sons, Albert and Gerald, both of Grinnell, and Earnest “Bud” of Kellogg; three daughters, Bernice Winchell of Grinnell and Maxine Wilson and Della Springer, both of the Rock Creek Lake area; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herman C., a grandchild, three brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Deppe was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kellogg.

The daughter of Dulin Spencer and Della Wiese Shill, she was born Oct. 2, 1896 in Jasper County.

She attended Champion Hill rural school and Kellogg High School.

She was married to Herman Charles Deppe Jan. 26, 1915 in Pine River, Minn.

The Deppes farmed a year in Pine River before moving to Jasper County where they farmed for many years in the Rock Creek area.

Mrs. Deppe had been a resident of St. Francis Manor since 1984.
