Kellogg, June 29, - Special to the Daily News - Funeral services were held for Frank Schwarz on the lawn of his home north west of town Sunday afternoon at 3:oo o’clock with Rev. Blancke pastor of the Lutheran Church of Newton, in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. Burton Morris who sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and by a male trio, which included R. C. and T. I. Birchard and E. O. Williams who sang “Rock of Ages”. They were accompanied on the organ by Miss Inez Powers.
The pallbearers were Milo Snodgrass, Nick Beukema, William Koppin and William Koppin Jr. of Newton and August Koppin and Charley Koppin of Kellogg. Burial was in the German cemetery west of town.
Frank Schwarz was born Dec. 25, 1862 near Berlin, Germany. He was baptized in infancy and after instruction in the doctrine of the church was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church. When a young man he served in the cavalry of the German Army.
At the age of 20 he came to the United States and settled in Jasper County where he spent the remainder of his life, living for the past 11 years on the farm north west of Kellogg. He was married to Miss Augusta Koppin July 25, 1890 at Newton. Five children were born to this union all of whom survive.
Mr. Schwarz was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kellogg. He died at his home Thursday afternoon, June 25, after an illness of several months duration.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs. Augusta Schwarz, three sons, Charles of Newton, William and John at home and two daughters, Mary at home and Mrs. Everett Curry of Kellogg.
The following were among the out of town attendants at the funeral Sunday: Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Koppin, Mr. and Mrs. August Koppin and Mrs. Carl Koppin of Lena Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schnathorst and Mr. and Mrs. August Scheuman of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hutchinson of Grinnell; Mr. and Mrs. Charley Schwarz and family, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Koppin, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Eilert, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Osten, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Beukema and family and Mr. and Mrs. Milo Snodgrass and family all of Newton.
