ZION, Ill. -- Military services for Fred V. “Dean” Courtney, 65, of Zion, Ill., brother of Barbara Thorpe of Newton, were held Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the National Cemetery in Rock Island, Ill.

He died recently at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in North Chicago, Ill., of cancer.
