Funeral services for John Wesley Christy, 86, of 814 E. 8th St. S., a resident of since 1928, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Reese Chapel.

The Rev. Douglas Oelke, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today.

Memorials to the Parkinson Foundation may be left at the funeral home.

Mr. Christy died at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines Wednesday.

Survivors are a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mabel, a son in infancy, three sisters and a brother.

The son of John W. and Melissa Way Christy, he was born Jan. 23, 1904 in Putnam Country, Mo.

He was married to Mabel Hennon Jan. 1, 1927 in Missouri.

Mr. Christy was a feed salesman and retired Lincoln Elementary custodian.

He had resided for the past year and a half at Colonial Manor in Baxter.

JOHN W. CHRISTY

NEWTON, IA. -- John W. Christy of Newton died of pneumonia Wednesday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. He was 86. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Reese Funeral Chapel, with burial in Newton Union Cemetery.

Mr. Christy was born in Missouri and had lived in Newton since 1928. He was a feed salesman and later retired as a custodian for the Newton schools.

Several nieces and nephews survive.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
