Alfred B. Couch, Sr.
KELLOGG -- Alfred B. Couch, Sr., 80, of Box 12, Kellogg, a longtime resident of Jasper County, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 26, in Kellogg of heart failure.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.
The Rev. Beverlee Bell, pastor of the Melbourne United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. today and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials to the Victor Grange may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Opal F.; three sons, Alfred Benjamin, Jr., of Newton, Gary Dwayne of Strasburg, Colo., and Larry Wayne of Kissimmee, Fla.; two daughters, Iona Mae (Mrs. Alfred) Hofer of State Center and Twila Erlane (Mrs. Walter) Mc Bride of Dacono, Colo.; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Also surviving are two brothers, Darrell and Clarence, both of Newton, a half-brother, Charles Bates of Englewood, Colo., and two half-sisters, Fern Davis of Milan, Ill., and Rowena (Mrs. Neil) Van Gaalen of Grand Junction, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons in infancy, a granddaughter, two great-great-grandchildren and a half-sister.
Mr. Couch was a member of the Victor Grange.
He was employed as a farm hand and at Mc Donald’s in Newton for five years.
The son of Thomas LeRoy and Mary Ellen Lovings Couch, he was born Sept. 20, 1910 at Promise City.
He attended Mystic schools.
He was married to Opal F. Ellenwood April 8, 1934 in Newton.
He had been a resident of Kellogg for 18 years.
