LYNNVILLE -- Zelpha Smith Crews, 81, of Lynnville, a lifelong resident of the Searsboro and Lynnville communities, died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 17, at St. Francis Manor Nursing Home in Grinnell.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Lynnville Friends Church.
Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Lynnville.
Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
Memorials to the Lynnville Friends Church or St. Francis Manor Nursing Home may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are a son, Arl of Lynnville; two grandsons, five brothers, Kenneth Smith of Greene, Max Smith, George Smith and Gene Smith, all of Grinnell; and Lyle of Bellflower, Calif.; and two sisters, Peggy Armstrong of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Norma Burkett of Grinnell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford, March 21, 1988 and two brothers, Pete Smith and Neil Smith.
Mrs. Crews was a member of the Lynnville Friends Church and past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star.
The daughter of George and Cecil Mary Farmer Smith, she was born May 13, 1909, near Searsboro, and was a graduate of Searsboro High School.
After her marriage to Clifford Crews in November, 1926, in Missouri, they resided in Searsboro where Mr. Crews operated a barber shop.
They moved to Lynnville in 1941 where Mrs. Crews operated a beauty shop and Mr. Crews a barber shop until both retired in 1968.
Mrs. Crews moved to St. Francis Manor Nursing Home eight years ago.
