MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa - Fred Engle, 91, of Marshalltown, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens there.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today where the family will be present tonight from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The son of Fred and Elizabeth Lind Engle, he was born Jan. 7, 1906, in Metz, a former Jasper County town. He attended Metz schools.

He married Hilda Jubeck Jan. 3, 1945, in Troy, Kan.

He worked as a farmer south of Newton for three years following their marriage and later moved near Marshalltown to continue farming.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Doris (Mrs. Craig) Booth of Arvada, Colo. and June (Mrs. Kenneth) Veverka of Hotchkiss, Colo.; a son and daughter-in-law, Floyd "Donny" and Darlene of Newton; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchilden; a sister, Lucy Hurley of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother; a sister; and two granddaughters. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, November 14, 1997.
