SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Louise Feuling Vickers, 92, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Newton, died Feb. 25, 2006, in the Health Care Center in San Antonio.

A graveside service was held March 7 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Memorials may be made to The Freedom House Alzheimer's Care and Research Center.

She was born Dec. 12, 1913, in New Hampton. She graduated from the School of Commerce at the University of Iowa in 1937. She was employed by General Electric and then by Knox-Reeves advertising agency in Minneapolis, Minn.

During World War II, she worked as an administrative assistant and secretary to officers in Headquarters Staff in the Air Material Command at Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio. She remained there throughout the war. She met Capt. L.D. Vickers, who was a test pilot at Wright Field, and they were married Sept. 5, 1946.

Following her husband's retirement from the U.S. Air Force, the family moved to Newton, where he worked as an executive for Maytag Company. They lived in Newton for 20 years. She was active in church, as a hospital volunteer, with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and community theater. She enjoyed sailing and traveling.

She suffered a serious accident on a trip in Canada in 1984, which left her a semi-invalid with inoperable back injuries. In 1988, they moved to Air Force Village, and in 1995, she entered Health Care Center.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Lynne Knapp of Big Canoe, Ga., and Gail Froemming of San Antonio, Texas; one son, Thomas E. Vickers of Belvedere, Calif.; two grandsons, two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.
