Celia L. Schumann, 83, of Newton died Friday, March 24, 2006, at USA Healthcare in Newton.

A funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Syd McCrorey of Community Heights Alliance Church officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in her name to Hospice of Jasper County.

The daughter of Roy Glen and Viva Elizabeth Garrett Shockey, she was born Oct. 10, 1922, in Greencastle, Mo. On Feb. 20, 1948, she married Carl H. Schmann in Unionville, Mo. She worked for Maytag Dairy Farms, Woolworth and Spurgeons.

She was a past member of Rock Creek Ikettes, Ladies of the Moose and attended Community Heights Alliance Church.

Survivors include a son, Jerry (Janice) Barnard of Marshalltown; a step-daughter, Joyce Schumann of Reseda, Calif.; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Annabel Richardson of Galapolis, Ohio; and a niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, Robert Glen Barnard.
