Ornetta Mearl Miller, 86, of Newton died Thursday, April 6, 2006, in the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service was held today at First Christian Church in Newton with the Rev. Tim Johnson, interim pastor of First Christian Church in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Vandalia Cemetery.

Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County.

The daughter of Forcice Lamoine Mott and Sylvia Jane Houck, she was born Oct. 13, 1919, in Vandalia. She graduated from Runnells Senior High School. On Nov. 25, 1938, she married Carroll Wayne Miller in Bethany, Mo. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church, Women's Fellowship and was a longtime Skiff Hospital Auxiliary member. She enjoyed flowers and dolls.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband; two sons, Jim (Reta) Miller of Waterloo and Bob and Linda Miller of Alliance, Neb.; a daughter, Deb (Kenny) Heckman of Waukomis, Okla.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
