REASNOR — Edward J. "Ed" Masters, 74, of Reasnor died Sunday, April 2, 2006, in Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A memorial service will be Friday at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. John Meister of Reasnor United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton.

The family will greet friends with a lunch immediately following the memorial service at the Moose Lodge in Newton. Memorials will be accepted to Reasnor Fire Department and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Herman and Harriett O. Farrow Masters, he was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Jasper County. He graduated from Newton Senior High School, and on March 1, 1997, he married Glorene K. Adams in Reasnor. He was a production worker at Maytag Company for more than 30 years. He was a member of Moose Lodge No. 923, where he was a past senior regent. He also was a member of Reasnor Fire Department. He lived in Reasnor for 34 years and also lived in Newton and Killduff. He enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Dianna (Dennis) Wares of Ankeny; a step-son, Jeff (Carol) Bailey of Chariton; three step-daughters, Brenda Smith of Collins, Annette (Corey) Ditsworth of Freeport, Ill., and Barbara (Brooks) Kincaid of Collins; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida Mae (Don) Morris of Killduff and Doris Haines of Seattle, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Lester; and a sister, Melba.
