Lindy LaJoy Maddex, 78, of Newton died Monday, April 10, 2006, in Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Roger Kirkpatrick of Detroit, Mich., officiating. Burial will be Thursday at 4:45 p.m. at Rosehill Cemetery in Lamoni.

Friends may call after 11:30 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will be available. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to Lindy Maddex Memorial Fund, Immanuel Baptist Church or Hospice of Jasper County.

The daughter of Amos Earl and E. Hazel (Ward) Derr, she was born July 27, 1927, in Harrison County, Mo. She graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City, Mo. On Nov. 14, 1946, she married William "Bill" Maddex Jr. in Kansas City, Mo. She worked as a bookkeeper, in accounting and as a secretary, for Southwestern Bell Telephone and the University of Missouri. She also was secretary for Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton.

Mrs. Maddex was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Questers, past PTA member and worked with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig Wood and Kathy Maddex of Akron, Ohio, and William "Bill" and Linda Marie Maddex of Woods Cross, Utah; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Lee Maddex-Cox of Patterson, N.Y., and Dema Kae and Alan Blood of Forest Grove, Ore.; and seven grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; grandparents; husband; and a son-in-law, Malcolm "Mickey" Cox.
