MACOMB, Ill. — Hope M. Knight, 81, of Macomb, Ill., formerly of Newton, died Monday, March 6, 2006, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Ill.

A funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home in Macomb, with the Rev. Steve Smith officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or McDonough County Animal Shelter.

The daughter of Thomas Wesley and Ruby Leona Mudra Trent, she was born April 4, 1924, in Oskaloosa. She attended school in Newton. On Feb. 14, 1946, she married David M. Knight in Newton. She worked as a secretary for the McDonough County YMCA, was an attendance clerk at Macomb High School and was a secretary for the Vocational Education Department at the high school. She was active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She loved animals, enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, music and flowers, especially roses. She attended Day Health Services in Macomb and enjoyed their activities. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Macomb.

Surviving are one son, Merrill Knight of Macomb; one daughter, Linda (and David) Geer of New London; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Letha (Jack) Kuesel of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Wesley M. Knight; a granddaughter; and three brothers.
