Marion A. Kingery, 89, of Newton died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Park Centre Health Care in Newton.

A family graveside service will be at Dunreath Cemetery in rural Monroe with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center in Newton, officiating. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and coffee and cookies will be served in the main lounge at Park Centre from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Memorials will be accepted to Park Centre Christmas Fund.

The son of Henry Walter Kingery and Ada Estella Andrew, he was born Aug. 31, 1916, in rural Marion County. He graduated from Knoxville Senior High School.
On March 11, 1937, he married Helen C. "Jackie" Campbell in Knoxville.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as a pilot. He worked as a production scheduler for Maytag Company for more than 31 years and retired in 1975. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Newton Post No. 111, member of 40 & 8, life member of DAV, longtime member of VFW and a member of the Ninth Iowa Military Cavalry.

Mr. Kingery was a gardener, hunter, fisherman, rock and arrowhead collector and rose grower. He enjoyed music, especially the Ink Spots, Glenn Miller and Lawrence Welk. He and his family enjoyed many years of camping on the Des Moines River and catching and eating catfish.

Survivors include two daughters, Kaye (Jerry) Postma of Rhodes and Norma "Rusti" (Bill) Riddle of Colfax; a son-in-law, Terry Dodd of Rosswell, Ga.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, William (Holly) Campbell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter Judy; two brothers, Elmer and Lloyd; and sister, Emma.
