MONROE — Ivan Chester "Ike" Kerns, 80, of Monroe died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at his home.

A funeral service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe with burial at Silent City Cemetery.

A visitation is planned Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Ike Kerns Memorial Fund.

The son of Charles C. and Jenny C. (Richie) Kerns, he was born May 5, 1925, in Council Bluffs. On July 3, 1948, he married Mary Elizabeth Wolfe. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and served Camp Miramar in California from 1943 to 1946. He worked as a machinist at Solar Aircraft in Des Moines for several years as well as at Maytag. He enjoyed fishing and going to casinos.

He is survived by a brother, Jerry Kerns of Council Bluffs; a sister-in-law, Juanita Kerns of Council Bluffs; many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife; a sister, Orpha; and seven brothers, Bill, Mike, Earl, Babe, Floyd, Lloyd and Jack.
