GLADBROOK — Max John Hefley, 95, of Gladbrook, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook.

A funeral service will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Lauris Meek, pastor of New Life Community Church of the Nazarene in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be after noon until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to New Life Community Church of the Nazarene in Newton.

The son of Levi and Bina Reeves Hefley, he was born June 22, 1910, in Selbia, S.D. He graduated from Zearing High School and attended electrician school for 3.5 months. He was an electrician and was self-employed for 25 years. He retired in 1973. He married Fern Rhodes, and later married Nora F. Cassteel Boucher on Oct. 29, 1990, in Newton.

Mr. Hefley is survived by his wife, Nora F. Hefley of Newton; a son, Keith Hefley of Missouri; two daughters, Joan Hurley of Tennessee and Irene Addie of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Fern Altman of Las Vegas, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; a son, Robert Hefley; and a sister, Faye Sled.
