Faye W. Girdner, 79, of Newton died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at First Christian Church in Newton with the Rev. Tim Johnson, interim pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. Memorials will be accepted to First Christian Church, Hospice of Jasper County or Project Awake.

The daughter of Ford B. and Peggy Pollack Wilson, she was born June 10, 1926, in Kenosha, Wis. She received registered nurse's training at Wesley Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Ill. On Dec. 21, 1947, she married Lewis Mac Girdner in Des Moines. She was a nurse at VA Hospital in Des Moines and Skiff Medical Center and Maytag Medical Department, both in Newton. She also worked as a nurse in the offices of Drs. Frech, Onnen and Singer in Newton for many years. She was a 4-H leader, a member of First Christian Church since 1951, AO Chapter of P.E.O., 20th Century Club and Kiwanis Queens.

Mrs. Girdner served on the Jasper County Board of Health for 39 years, Hospice of Jasper County and Absentee Ballot Board for many years. She spent her childhood in Mercer, Mo., and was a resident of Newton since 1951.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph (Denice) Girdner of Winnepeg, Canada, and Jeffrey (Laura) Girdner of Sheboygan, Wis.; two daughters, Mary Jo (David) Smith of Yuma, Ariz., and Janet (Bruce) Donszelmann of Amstelveen, Netherlands; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Wilson of Lineville, Mo.; a sister, Roberta Girdner of Hutchinson, Kan.; a sister-in-law, Josephine Applegate of Mesa, Ariz.; and four nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
