Pauline "Pat" Fryer, 76, of Newton died Sunday, March 5, 2006, at her home at Park Centre.

A memorial service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center in Newton, officiating. Her body has been cremated. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in her name be given to Park Centre Good Samaritan Fund. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Glen and Ora Hammer Anderson, she was born Nov. 11, 1929, in Newton. She was a lifelong resident of Newton and graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1947. On Aug. 5, 1967, she married John T. Fryer in Newton. She worked as a secretary for the tool engineering department at Maytag for 32 years and retired in 1986. She was a member of the American Legion Post 111 Auxiliary.

When she was a young adult, she was a country singer, sang at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines and cut several records. She enjoyed telling jokes and loved animals, especially dogs and horses.

Mrs. Fryer is survived by her husband; a son, Thomas J. "TJ" (Sandra) Fryer of Carrollton, Texas; two sisters, Mickey (Carl) Anderson of Newton and Marilyn (Matt) Leydens of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy (Hugh) Hesson and Mozelle (C.B.) O'Roake.
