Bette Ellen Felton, 88, of Newton died Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf of First United Methodist Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery a later date.

The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service with a coffee time at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jasper County or First United Methodist Church and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Guy and Millie Coxe Rinehart, she was born Feb. 17, 1918, in Newton. She attended Newton schools and graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1935. She worked as a cosmetologist for many years and was a legal secretary for Dunn Law Firm in Eldora for 38 years. She began dancing at the age of 5, and later became an instructor. She danced with Cornflake Cloggers until 2004. In 1938, she married Doyle Dean Felton in Newton.

Mrs. Felton was a member of First United Methodist Church and Methodist Women's Association. She was a member of the Order of Easter Star Newton Chapter 100 since 1951. She was one of the founders and a charter member of the State Legal Secretaries Association, American Legion Auxiliary and Skiff Medical Center's Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered in the gift shop at the hospital. She also was a member of the Jasper County Historical Society, member of the Newton Alumni Association and a member of Cornflake Cloggers in Marshalltown. She volunteered at the Newton Community Theatre ticket office. She enjoyed dancing, knitting, playing organ, doing crafts and cooking.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Kay Reece of Cedar Rapids; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Dollie Felton, Marian Perrish and Marjorie Bagnall; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Guy Rinehart Jr.
