KELLOGG — Rachel A. Stanley Evans, 80, of Kellogg died Friday, March 24, 2006, at Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County.

The daughter of Orville and Lucy A. Ferneau Stanley, she was born March 19, 1926, in Grinnell. In February 1977, she married Virgil Evans in Newton. She retired from the State of Iowa Department of Revenue as an administrative assistant. She helped process the business tax returns for Iowa.

She was a member of Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints and enjoyed ceramics and canning food from the garden. She was a lifelong resident of Jasper County and lived in Newton and Colfax.

Survivors include three sons, Fred (Naomi) Petre of Kellogg, Joe Hopkins of Georgetown, Texas, and Raymond Hopkins of Grinnell; four daughters, Dorothy Talbot of Grinnell, Shirley (Harold) Montavy of Holden, Mo., Marie (Luther) Wigginton of Casper, Wyo., and Pat Fornshell of Dayton, Ohio; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Stanley and Fred Stanley; a sister, Charlene Carmer; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Ron; a daughter, Norma; daughter-in-law, Linda Sue Hopkins; three step-children, Johnny, Virgil Jr. and Virginia; three sisters, Grace Peters, Christina Bucklin and Barbara Bell; and two brothers, Charlie and Claire Stanley.
