Dorothy E. Dorothy, 90, of Newton died Saturday, March 18, 2006, at Park Centre Care Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with Dr. Marvin Potter, retired minister of Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled Wednesday after 10 a.m. at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to Friends of the Monroe Library or Hospice of Jasper County.

The daughter of George March Gray and Cora May Tyrrel, she was born Nov. 3, 1915, in Warner, N.D. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1934 and received training to attain a teaching certificate. On Nov. 21, 1936, she married Hubert Dorothy in Newton and was a homemaker. She devoted 53 years to caring for her son, Steve. She enjoyed camping, baking, games and puzzles.

Mrs. Dorothy was a resident of Jasper County most of her life and was a member of Monroe Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn (Bud) Langmaid of Newton, Rita Layton of Monroe and Sheryl (Bernard) O'Malley of Urbandale; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Sample of Albia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Steve Dorothy; son-in-law, Robert Layton; four sisters; and one brother.
