MONROE — Irene M. Colyn, 83, of Monroe died Friday, March 17, 2006, in Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service was held today at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. Burial was at Silent City Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jasper County.

The daughter of William Charles and Karalena (Birkenholtz) Biehl, she was born Jan. 18, 1923, in Monroe. She attended rural school in Jasper County and graduated from Monroe High School in 1940, with a certificate in elementary education. Following high school, she attended Northern Iowa and taught in rural Jasper County. On May 26, 1946, she married Robert E. Colyn.

Survivors include a daughter, Jeannie Colyn of Newton, and a brother, Wayne (Bev) Biehl of Knoxville.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; a daughter; and two brothers, Ernie and one in infancy.
