KELLOGG - Russell Gildersleeve, 79, of Rt. 2, Box 319, Kellogg, a longtime resident of the Kellogg community, died Sunday evening, Feb. 20 at the Grinnell General Hospital following a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. William Long, pastor of the Kellogg United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Rhorabaugh Cemetery.

Friends may call after noon Tuesday at the funeral home and visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials in his name will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Helen; four step-stone, Mahlon Huston of Stella, Mo., Gary Huston and Melvin Huston, both of Winfield, and Kirk Huston of Pella; a daughter, Linda Ehler of Kellogg; a grand-daughter nine step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are four sisters, Gladys Birkenholtz and Mildred Healy, both of Newton, Jessie French of Newell and Viola Gildersleeve of Powersite, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Melba, four brothers, Dave, Ola, Ora and Ervin "Buster" and four sisters, Mabel Birkenholtz, Hyla Campbell, Georgia Casper and Crystal Thomason.

Mr. Gildersleeve had been employed at the John Deer Steel plant in the Quad Cityies and worked for the Maytag Co. in Newton for 10 years and has farmed in the Kellogg area since 1940.

The son of Clinton and Lucinda Orendorff Gildersleeve, he was born Oct. 20, 1914 in Annawan, Ill., and attended Monroe schools.

He was married to Helen See Huston Davison Dec. 31, 1988 in Winfield. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton Iowa, February 21, 1994.
