Services for Gertrude Swank, 72, who died this morning at Skiff Medical Center, are pending at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Gertrude Swank

Gertrude Olsthoorn Swank, 72, of Rt. 3, Newton, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died of cancer Thursday morning, June 8, at the Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Christian Reformed Church.

The Rev. William Vanden Bos, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sully Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after noon today. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions to the Newton Christian School will be accepted.

Survivors are a son, Norman; six grandchildren; two sisters, Cora (Mrs. Tunis) Hartgers and Johanna (Mrs. Bernie) Vos, both of Sully; and a brother, Lambert Olsthoorn of Sully.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John, Feb. 28, 1987, two brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Swank, a homemaker, was a charter member of the Christian Reformed Church, and a member of the Mary Martha Circle, Community Club and Newton Christian School Society.

The daughter of John and Gertjie Moes Olsthoorn, she was born May 23, 1917 at Lynnville.

She was married to John Swank Feb. 17, 1938 in rural Reasnor.
