Cheryl M. Stokes

Cheryl M. Stokes, 21, of 7105 Washington Ave., Windsor Heights, died of Batten’s disease, a degenerative neurological disorder, Tuesday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, of which she was a member, with burial in Newton Union Cemetery.

Miss Stokes, a student at Ruby Van Meter School, was a lifelong Des Moines area resident.

She is survived by her parents, Thomas and Marilyn Stokes of Windsor Heights; a brother, David of West Des Moines; a sister, Teresa Stokes at home; and her grandparents, Harold and Mary Jane Peterson of Geneseo, Ill.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday at Westover Funeral Home, where the family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to her school or Camp Sunnyside.
