Herbert Sliger, 81, of Newton, died this morning, May 12, at Embassy Manor Care Center.

Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements which have not been completed.

Herbert B. Sliger

Funeral services for Herbert B. Sliger, 81, of Newton, a longtime Jasper County resident, were held today, May 15, at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The Rev. Tom Mabe, pastor of the Colfax Baptist Church, conducted services. Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery.

He died Friday morning at Embassy Manor.

Survivors are his wife, Ethel; three sons, John of Newton, Ernest of Newton and Robert of Syracuse, Neb.; three daughters, Doris Kline of Chariton, Verna Nell of Colfax and Irene Tuttle of Cambria; 23 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Charles of California, Mo., and John, and two sisters, Margaret Bohen and Frances Thompson, both of Independence, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Emily in 1967; parents, a sister and two grandsons.

Mr. Sliger had been a former area farm laborer and caretaker at Rock Creek.

He was born Aug. 17, 1907 in Kingston, Mo.

He was married to Emily Flemming and in 1969 to Ethel Bottenfield.
