Florence C. Swihart

Florence Conn Swihart, 90, formerly of 124 E. 4th St. N., a resident of Heritage Manor since 1984, died early today, April 18, at the Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Reese Chapel.

The Rev. William Calhoun, pastor of the Newton First Presbyterian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.

Memorials to the Newton First Presbyterian Church may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are two nephews, David Conn of Newton and John Mowry of Marshalltown; a brother-in-law, George Swihart of Heritage Manor, and a special friend, Dorothy Chaney of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray, a son, John Francis, five brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Swihart was a member of the Newton First Presbyterian Church, the Eastern Star Lodge 468 of Baxter of which she was a 50-year member and of which she had served for two years as worthy matron.

She had been a telephone operator prior to her marriage.

The daughter of David and Grace Conn, she was born Sept. 28, 1889 in Newton.

She was married to Ray Swihart Sept. 1, 1909 at the home of her parents in Newton.

Mr. and Mrs. Swihart farmed northwest of Newton until moving to Newton in 1962.
