PELLA -- Funeral services for Andrew H. Slings, 65, of Pella, a former resident of the Prairie City community, were held today, April 24, at the Pella Second Reformed Church.

Memorials to Hospice of Pella may be left at the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

Survivors are his wife, Laura; a son, Philip A. of Pella; three daughters, Carol A. (Mrs. Joe) Ver Woert of Sully, Ruth J. Fox of Kansas City, Mo., and Lois D. Slings of Pella; four grandchildren, a brother, Harold I. Slings of Pella; and a sister, Berdine (Mrs. Willis) Van Sant of Sully.

Mr. Slings was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Calvin Andrew in infancy in 1952 and a brother, Rodger I. Slings.

A member of the Pella Second Christian Reformed Church, Mr. Slings was a former deacon of the church and had served on the boards of the Pella Christian Grade and Pella Christian High Schools.

The son of Isaac and Andrianna Boertje Slings, he was born Nov. 4, 1923, in Prairie City and was educated in Prairie City rural schools.

He was married to Laura Mae Vos Oct. 18, 1945, in Pella.

The couple farmed in the Prairie City community for a short time, and farmed west of Pella for 25 years before moving to Pella in 1971.

Mr. Slings owned and operated Co-Op Service Station in Pella and later was an employee of Pella Implement until retiring a year ago.
