Robert L. Shipley

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Military services for Robert Lowell Shipley, 72, of Alexandria, Va., formerly of Colfax, were held Tuesday, April 11, in the Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

He died recently in Alexandria.

Survivors are a nephew, Garth E. Shipley of Newton; and three nieces, Frances Mayhew of Marietta, Ga., Lenore Monaghan of Natchitoches, La., and Joyce Crenshaw of Fredericksburg, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clyde and Howard, and a sister, Roberta.

Mr. Shipley, a veteran of World War II, had been employed at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., prior to his retirement.

The son of Robert G. and Cora Bean Shipley, he was born Nov. 10, 1916, was a 1934 graduate of Colfax Community High School and was graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
