KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Funeral services for Mary Young, 86, of Kansas City, Kan., a former longtime resident of Newton, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 5, at the First United Methodist Church of Newton.

Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton after 1 p.m. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be held form 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church may be left at the church or the funeral home.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Funeral services for Mary E. Bean Young, 86, of 7215 W. 54th Terrace, Overland Park, Kan., a former resident of Jasper County, will be held Friday, May 5, at the Newton First United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Harold Sparks of Newton, will conduct services. Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

Memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church will be accepted.

She died Tuesday at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

Survivors are her husband, Kenneth; a son, Richard of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Patricia (Mrs. Dean) Smith of Overland Park, Kan.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Fern Cramer, Vina Addicks and Edith Trout, and a brother, William Bean.

Mrs. Young, a former employee of the First Newton National Bank, was a member of the Newton First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, The Builders Sunday School Class, NBB Club, Chapter K of the TTT and a 50-year member of the Newton chapter 100, Order of Eastern Star.

The daughter of Eugene and Martha Wilson Bean, she was born Jan. 28, 1903 in Reasnor, attended Reasnor schools and was graduated from Newton Community High School.

She was married to Kenneth W. Young Sept. 5, 1928 at the Newton First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Young had resided in Newton, Atlantic, Des Moines, Oklahoma City, Okla., Kansas City, Mo., and Minneapolis, Minn., until 1967 when her husband retired and they returned to Newton.
