GRINNELL -- Raymond White, 87, of Grinnell, a former Jasper County resident, died Friday evening, Oct. 20, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grinnell.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorials to St. Mary’s Catholic Church may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Antonia; eight sons, Clair of Hyattsville, Md., Edward of Nashville, Tenn., David of Waterloo, Louis of Grayslake, Ill., Mark of Des Moines, Luke of Davenport, and Steven and Matthew, both of Maysville; two daughters, Mary Ellen White of Grinnell and Ruth Ann Butler of Derwood, Md.; 27 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Willis and John, two grandchildren, a brother and a sister.

Mr. White was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Victor Grange and the National Farmers Organization (NFO).

The son of Richard Michael and Ellen Miles White, he was born Jan. 8, 1902 in Vienna, Mo.

Later the family moved to Buffalo, S. D.

He moved to Marshalltown in 1927 and farmed in the Haverhill area until 1940 when he moved to Rock Creek Township in Jasper County.

Mr. White farmed in Rock Creek Township until 1980 when he retired and moved to Grinnell.

He was married to Antonia Marie Betterman Jan. 8, 1929 at Haverhill.
