Wanda R. Whitaker

GRINNELL -- Wanda R. Beukema Whitaker, 62, of Grinnell, a former resident of Newton, died Monday, Dec. 4, at the Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

Brother Don King of Grinnell will conduct services and burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are three sons, Dennis and Tom, both of Grinnell, and Tim of Iowa City; a daughter, Ruth Whitaker of Riverside, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Also surviving are seven sisters, Esther Crook of Pasadena, Calif., Elise Long of Huntersville, N. C., and Helen Kinart, Martha Dammeier, Wilma Sleeuwenhoek, Eunice Stubbe and June Adams, all of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Dale, and a sister, Ruth Butcher.

Mrs. Whitaker, a 1945 graduate of Newton Community High School, who attended Central College in Pella and Simpson College in Indianola, taught for several years in Jasper County schools, and later was employed at the Vernon Co. in Newton.

The daughter of S. R. and Floy Eaton Beukema, she was born Oct. 20, 1927 in Newton.

She moved to Grinnell in 1953.
