Vernabelle Wormley

Vernabelle Vanness Wormley, 62, of Rt. 1, Newton, a lifelong resident of Newton, died of cancer Monday, Sept. 11, at Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Robert Snyder, pastor of Wittemberg United Church of Christ, north of Newton, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Wittemberg Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon today. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions to Hospice of Jasper County or the Jasper county Historical Society will be accepted.

Survivors are her husband, John H.; a son, James V. of Newton; two daughters, Sandy (Mrs. Gary) Kaput of Newton and Cinda (Mrs. Allen) Kornblum of St. Paul, Minn.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Sarvis of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Wormley was a member of the Wittemberg Church, Wittemberg Women’s Fellowship, Wittemberg Grange and Skiff Medical Center Auxiliary.

She had been a bookkeeper at the Parsons Co. and bookkeeper and office manager at Axtell Ford for 17 years.

The daughter of Vern Lyle and Mabel Brodersen Vanness, she was born Feb. 27, 1927 in Newton, was graduated from Newton Community High School in 1944 and attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines.

She was married to John H. Wormley July 2, 1949 in Lovilia.
